Photo art project - room sign

This is a really cool project that is easy and fun. I made a sign for Riley's room awhile back using photos of letters that I took at Toontown in Disneyland. And now I will share with you the look so you can do the same thing!
First, take photos of random letters. Do the whole alphabet, or just choose the letters you need. Make sure you get a variety of different kinds of letters, and don't be afraid to duplicate the letters you photograph so you have some choices later on. When you take the photos of your letters, try and fill the frame with as much of the letter as you can. You will soon find that certain angles are definitely better than others.

Once you are done gathering your letter collection, choose the ones you want to use and crop them into squares using your photo editing program. I used photoshop and cropped them to 3 inch squares each. After cropping them, I converted all the letters to black and white - that way, even though they are all different styles, there is a consistency to the arrangement. I added a grungy border in photoshop, too. You can do this with your photo editing program, or after your photo is printed, paint or ink the edges yourself for a more handmade look.

Mount the printed letter photos on colored cardstock, and then use foam adhesive to mount each letter onto a piece of foamcore board. The foamcore is lightweight and is perfect for mounting on the wall or right on youe child's bedroom door!

Let me know if you try this project. It's a great one to do with kids. They will love looking for the letters in their name in unusual places, and they will be even more excited to see the letters made into a cool sign for their rooms!

I found an artist who does this sort of thing, only she doesn't use actual letters. She uses objects that resemble letters, like a tree branch or car tire. So cute!
