Roller Skating

Violet was invited to go to Molly's birthday party last weekend... it was at Crystal Palace Skating Center. You know, THE Crystal Palace on Rancho. The one that has been there as long as I can remember. I was sooo excited to take her - and I took Riley, too, since he had never skated before in his life.
There was a bit of a learning curve for Riley. At first his skate wheels were too loose, and he just couldn't keep his feet underneath himself. He was totally one of those characters you see on TV or cartoons that can't skate. Only it was real life, and it was quite a workout for me, ad I spent most of my time practically carrying a 50 pound kid around the rink.
But we went to the counter and had them tighten the skates so the wheels were harder to roll... and that was what did it! He could finally stand up on them and he got out on the floor all by himself! He was still a little wobbly, but at least I didn't have to carry him anymore. Instead, he enlisted the help of one of Molly's friends, Mia. Mia is a super cute and super sweet girl that Riley clearly had a crush on. My son LITERALLY THREW HIMSELF IN FRONT OF HER as she skated by so she would stop and help him.

I asked him about it later... "Riley, were you falling down on purpose over there?" And he said to me, "Yeah, cause I wanted that one girl to help me!"
NICE.
And, then there was Violet... speeding around the track,
doing the LIMBO...
and even making it to win herself a free drink at the snack bar! AWESOME!
Riley got brave and ventured out to limbo too, but it was too late. He showed me how he would have done it, though. :)

The party was so much fun. I got in a serious workout that day! I don't remember the last time I skated... it had to be at least 10 years ago, if not more. And I am so glad the kids got to go and experience the kind of fun I had in my childhood ;)

I love roller skating. Our kids' school has two school skating parties each year and we have a blast. Not too many parents skate though so I feel like a dork out there sometimes. It won't be long before I'm an embarrassment to Drew and Noah! LOL

Our school has skate night every month. We LOVE to go to Crystal Palace (it's the dive one on Boulder Hwy. though).

Did Violet enjoy her one-ounce shot of soda? (snicker) You'd think they would give them a little more since it's a prize!

Way to go Riley. Throwing himself in front of the babes at such a young age is a good thing...I think.

AAAWWW MAN. I can remember going to the roller skating rink. That was so much fun. It did have a weird smell though, like they were making cheese in the back or something.

Well I don't know about the cheese smell but I defin. had some great couple skates there. You are a cute mom teaching your boy how to skate.
